What is the Moodle Administrator Qualification?
The MAQ is a qualification program designed specifically for administrators of Moodle LMS and Moodle Workplace. It is not a training program, but a qualification process to validate your skills and expertise in managing, optimising, and maintaining Moodle platforms.
The MAQ is built on the DigCompLMSAdmin framework, which focuses on digital competences critical for Learning Management System (LMS) administrators. The framework has been conceived and developed by Moodle Pty Ltd, the core team behind the Moodle project. This eight-course qualification program equips administrators with the tools and insights to enhance their site’s performance, usability, and overall impact.

Structure of the MAQ program
The MAQ program covers eight areas of digital competence tailored to Moodle administration:
- Implementation: installation, security, and policy settings.
- Maintenance and support: regular upgrades, performance optimisation, and user support.
- Site structure: organising courses and categories effectively.
- User management: authentication, roles, and permissions.
- Site appearance and functionality: branding, accessibility, and mobile-friendly design.
- Monitoring: analytics, reports, and event monitoring.
- Plugins and extensions: managing integrations and plugins.
- Professional practice: engaging with the Moodle community and reflective practice.
Each course includes a combination of formative assessments, and summative quizzes and assignments, culminating in earning a badge. Completing all eight courses grants you the prestigious Moodle Administrator Qualification certificate.

The MAQ qualification is valid for 2 years.
The requalification course will allow holders of the MAQ to refresh their knowledge and confirm they remain up-to-date with the latest Moodle releases. The requalification course will become available in 2027.
Complete the pre-qualification quiz, available in Moodle Academy, to ensure you’re ready for the program and then complete the form below, so a team member can connect you with an authorised MAQ provider.
Assessment in MAQ courses consists of one timed knowledge quiz and one assignment requiring short written statements with screenshots. To successfully complete any of the MAQ courses, candidates need to pass both the quiz and assignment each with a minimum score of 80%.
Duration: You have 6 months to complete all 6 self-directed courses. Please set aside 8 hours of individual study per course.
Designed for:The MAQ is aimed at experienced Moodle administrators who have completed prior training and have at least one year of experience managing Moodle sites. Candidates will undergo a pre-program assessment to verify their suitability.
Pre-requisite: Candidates must complete the Moodle HQ MAQ pre-placement quiz and receive feedback that suggests that they are suitable.
Individuals: We run programs 3 times a year, starting in March, June and October. The cost is ¥8000 CNY for the 8 courses with formal certification by Moodle HQ on completion, with no hidden extra costs. There is a 10% discount when 2 or more candidates from the same institution take the program at the same time.
Institutions for: We can also cater the start date of the program to best suit your needs for teams of 6 candidates from the same institution.
